Cambodia does not offer permanent residency as its ordinary visa can be extended indefinitely. As a result, foreigners who wish to stay in Cambodia for a long period may either obtain and extend their business or ordinary visas, or apply for Cambodian citizenship.

Cambodia Citizenship Routes:

A. Business Investment:

• Invest at least 1.25 billion riels (around US$312,500) to be eligible for citizenship through investment

          

requirements:

1. Any foreigner who had received a letter of authorization for investment from the Cambodian Development Council (CDC) and who had implemented concretely an actual project
2. Any foreigner who had received authorization for investment legally from the Royal Government.

 

B. Donation:

• Make a cash donation of 1 billion riels (about US$250,000) or more to the national budget.

Cambodia Citizenship Requirements And Qualifications

• Applicant must be 18 years of age or older
• Applicant must have a current and valid passport
• Applicant must have a current valid visa for entry into Cambodia
• Applicant must be of sound mind
• The applicant must be in good health
• Be of good character
• Proficient in Khmer in reading, writing, and speaking
• Have made a qualifying investment in Cambodia

 

Steps And Timeline

1. Check all requirements from the Ministry of Interior.

• Applicants can obtain related information from Cambodian embassies and consulate offices worldwide.

2. Organize all the required documents and make copies of the same, and submit the application together with copies of required documents to the department of citizenship under the Interior Ministry.

3. When applications and documents are submitted, the citizenship officers at the ministry shall go through the document to verify the information.

• In the process of verification, interviews and investigations are also carried out.

4. After the verification, the decision is made. In the decision made, an application may either be rejected or accepted.

5. After making a decision, the applicant is notified about the decision in writing; and if the application is approved, the application is published to allow anyone with any objections forward a claim;

6. When the publication period elapses and no one has submitted an objection, the applicant is required to make an oath in court; and

7. After making an oath, it is signed and thereof pronounced as a citizen of Cambodia.
