About Bahrain Citizenship and Residency

Bahrain has launched a new 10-year Golden Residency Visa (Golden Visa) which provides expatriates and foreign investors the opportunity to reside in the country on a permanent basis.

Holders of the Golden Visa will have their residency renewed indefinitely once every 10 years provided they continue to meet the qualifying criteria, one of which is remaining in the Kingdom for 90 days in any 12-month period.

Types of Golden Residency Visa

  1. Retired 
  2. Property Owner  
  3. Talented 
  4. Residents

Required Terms:

1. Owner of properties in Bahrain with a total value not less than BD 200,000 when the properties were purchased.

         Required Documents:

  • A clear copy of the passport is valid for more than 6 months. (Please attach a copy of the page family information or any other additional information).
  • A clear copy of the ID card.
  • A clear copy of the title deed proves that the value of the properties owned by the foreigner in his name is not less than BD 200,000.
  • A clear copy of a valid health insurance certificate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • A clear copy of the applicant’s six-month bank statement.
  • Clear copy of the previous residence for new applications. (If any).
  • A medical report indicating the applicant is free from contiguous diseases (less than 3 months from the application date)

2. Retiree with a monthly income of not less than BD4,000 

         Required Documents:

  • A clear copy of the passport is valid for more than 6 months. (Please attach a copy of the page family information or any other additional information).
  • A clear copy of the ID card.
  • A clear copy of a valid health insurance certificate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • A clear copy of the proof of the basic salary of the applicant provided that it is BD 4000 or more.
  • A clear copy of the previous residence permit (If available).
  • A clear copy of the applicant’s six-month bank statement.
  • A medical report indicating the applicant is free from contiguous diseases (less than 3 months from the application date)

3. Highly talented individuals such as artists, athletes and healthcare workers who meet the relevant criteria.

         Requires Documents:

  • A clear copy of the passport is valid for more than 6 months. (Please attach a copy of the family information page or any other additional information).
  • A clear copy of a certificate proving that the applicant is gifted (such as academics, athletes,
  • Entrepreneurs, inventors, award-winning artists and authors, and their peers)
  • A clear copy of a valid health insurance certificate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • A clear copy of the applicant’s six-month bank statement.
  • A medical report indicating the applicant is free from contiguous diseases (less than 3 months from the application date)
  • A clear copy of the ID card (if applicable)
  • A clear copy of the previous residence permit (if applicable)
  • Approval from an accredited business incubator in Bahrain (for Entrepreneurs only)
  • Ph.D. certificate (academics only)
  • A higher education degree is one of the priority specializations as determined by the Higher Education Council (academics only)
  • A copy of the patent document (patent owners only)

4. An employee working in Bahrain for no less than 5 years with an average salary not less than BD 2,000 in the past 5 years.

       Required documents for a resident foreigner (Employee or Retired):

  • A clear copy of the passport is valid for more than 6 months. (Please attach a copy of the page family information or any other additional information).
  • A clear copy of the ID card.
  • A clear copy of proof of retirement certificate.
  • A clear copy of the proof of the basic salary of the applicant provided that it is BD 2000 or more in the past five years of residence.
  • A clear copy of the applicant’s six-month bank statement
  • A clear copy of a valid health insurance certificate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
