About Netherlands Citizenship and Residency 

The Netherlands offers a Residency Permit in the country for foreign investors willing to put a minimum of 1.25 million Euros in a Dutch business, invest in the economy and create jobs. The permit is good for three years. However, the Netherlands relies on a points-based system to judge an investment’s value. The Netherlands does not have a citizenship-by-investment program, but after five uninterrupted years of permanent residency applicants can apply for Dutch citizenship. Applicants must prove integration into society; such as speaking Dutch, and renounce their original nationality.

There are certain conditions apply to investing in the Netherlands.

• Minimum Investment Amount: the investment in a Dutch company or fund needs to be of at least 1,250,000 euros and there is no possibility of investing in real estate for private purposes.
• Valuable Investment: the business or fund investment needs to be relevant to the Dutch economy; for this purposes, it will be evaluated by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency based on a points system.
• The Capital: the invested capital needs to be deposited into a bank account of a Dutch bank or a foreign bank branch located in the Netherlands; moreover, it needs to have been produced via legitimate means.
• Applicant’s Situation: the applicant needs to comply with the requirements for not having previously been in the country illegally and/or not having offered incorrect information in a previous residence permit application.

 

Foreign Startups Residence Permit

Another route to obtain Netherlands Citizenship is through investment for a foreign startup, under which the applicant can also receive a residence permit which, when renewed accordingly, can allow the applicant to apply for citizenship in time.

 

Startup Visa General Condition

• You have valid passport.
• You do not pose a threat to public order or national security.
• You are prepared to undergo a tuberculosis test when you arrive in the Netherlands.
• You take out Dutch health insurance when you arrive in the Netherlands.

 

Startup Visa Specific Condition

• You must have an agreement to work together with a recognized facilitator.
• Your product or service is innovative.
• You have solid business plan.
• You register your new business with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
• You have sufficient financial resources (such as savings) to live in the Netherlands.

Netherlands Residency Requirements And Qualifications

Stappen en tijdlijn

1. Submit Application and Payment: You apply for the MVV and the residence permit at the same time. You submit the application in person to the Dutch representation in your own country or the country of continuous residence. This is possible by appointment only. During the appointment, your biometrics will be taken. From the Dutch representation, you will receive a confirmation letter with your alien registration number (V-number). After the appointment, you yourself send your application to the IND in the Netherlands and pay the fees. You must do both within 3 weeks from the date of application at the Dutch representation. In the form it says what document to send along with your application and you will also find how to pay the fees for the application.
2. Receipt and Check Application: The day you submit your application at the Dutch embassy is the start date of your application. The IND should take a decision within the statutory decision period. The IND will then check to see if your application is complete and if the fees have been paid. Are documents missing, or a documents not correct.
3. Decision: The IND checks if you meet all the conditions. The IND has to make a decision within a period of 90 days.
4. Collect MVV: You collect the MVV from the Dutch representation where you have submitted the application form. You have 3 months to collect MVV. Please make an appointment for this with the representation. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months on the day you get MVV.
5. Travel to the Netherlands: Once you have collected your MVV, you can travel to the Netherlands. The MVV is valid for 90 days.
