About Uzbekistan Citizenship and Residency

Uzbekistan is bordered on the north by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan on the northeast, Tajikistan on the southeast, Afghanistan on the south, and Turkmenistan on the southwest. Tashkent is the Uzbekistan capital and largest city.

Visas to Uzbekistan are offered in a variety of forms. Even if you are transiting through Uzbekistan, you will need a visa unless you come from a country belonging to a visa-exempt category. For transitory reasons, foreign citizens can apply for a short-term visa in Uzbekistan via the e-Visa system, the embassy, or on arrival if they are traveling for tourism, business, cultural, and other short-term purposes. To apply for a visa, foreign nationals need to go to the Uzbek embassy or consulate in their home country. They will also need to seek permission from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Labor.

A foreign citizen can obtain a residence permit in Uzbekistan by investing in Real Estate.

 

Buy Real Estate – You will be granted a residence permit if you buy a new-build or off-plan residential property worth a minimum of:

• $400,000 in Tashkent region
• $200,000 in Samarkand, Bukhara, and some other majors regions
• $100,000 in far-flung regions like Karakalpakstan & others

It has to be a single apartment/house, so at $400,000 you’ll probably be buying some overpriced luxury apartments.

 

Invest $3 million into the Uzbek economy – and you’ll get a 10-year permanent residency for you and your family, with all the rights that go with it like education and healthcare.

Invest about $200,000 in the Uzbek economy (the equivalent of 8500 minimum living standards) and you’ll obtain a 3-year residence permit. This law was passed in late September and is still open to interpretation. An active business is the most logical way, but maybe lawyers could argue that investing parts of the money on the Tashkent Stock Exchange could contribute to the $200,000.

Note that everything is changing very fast in Uzbekistan. Generally, these residence permits allow you to bring over your family as well.

 

Temporary Residence Conditions of Uzbekistan

• According to internal rules foreign citizens visiting Uzbekistan temporarily must submit documents for registration at the place of residence within 72 hours upon arrival to Uzbekistan.
• Registration is not necessary if you arrive in Uzbekistan during weekends or holidays or if a period of your stay will not exceed three working days.
• During stays in a hotel your stay will be registered by the hotel administration. Upon checking out you should remember of taking the registration form with you stamped by the hotel administration.

Note: Business Visa holders are required special authorization to stay in private homes, which should be obtained before arrival in Uzbekistan. Ask your inviting business or organization to help you with the arrangements. Without such authorization, you will be required to stay in authorized hotels, where they will register you automatically.

Importantly, Uzbek Visas indicate not only the validity of the visa but also the period a person is allowed to stay in Uzbekistan on a given trip.

Uzbekistan Residency Requirements And Qualifications

• Visa application on the letterhead of the organization of the established sample
• Electronic application form from visa.MFA.uz website
• Copies of passports of the invited person of the organization, for submission of documents
• Copies of documents for the organization (license, certificates, etc)
• Copies of orders to the head and authorized person
• A copy of the power of attorney of the organization for the authorized person
• When applying for a visa upon arrival at Tashkent airport, you must also provide copies of air tickets or reservations
• Certificate from the workplace of the invited person.

 

The list of required documents for inviting foreigners by individuals:

• Visa application form
• Electronic application form from visa.MFA.uz website
• Copies of passports of the invited and inviting person
• The original notice of the invitation issued by the internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• Copies of documents confirming family ties (if any)
• When applying for a visa upon arrival at Tashkent airport, you must also provide copies of air tickets or reservations.
